2014 Tentative Tax Rates Released

The DuPage County Clerk, Paul Hinds, has released the tentative tax rates for the 2014 tax bills, payable 2015.

Most residents who are not in School District U-46 or Elgin Community College District 509 will see modest increases in their tax bills, in most cases between 0.3% and 2%.

Most Wayne Township residents who live in U-46 and District 509 will see substantial reductions in their 2014 tax bills.

As a reminder, DuPage County residents of these districts saw artificially high 2013 tax rates (payable 2014).  The inflated tax rates were miscalculated due to an apportionment error by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR), as a result of incorrect data provided to the IDOR by the Kane County Clerk’s office.

For most residents, taxes paid to U-46 will go down about 20.37%; and taxes paid to District 509 will go down about 29.36%.

These are estimates, and the reductions in the total tax bills for residents will vary depending on the municipality in which the property is located.

Hanover Park properties (located in U-46) will see reductions of about 13.6%; Carol Stream properties (located in U-46) will see reductions of about 16%; Bartlett residents will see reductions of about 16.6%; Wayne residents will see reductions of about 17.8%; and unincorporated residents will see reductions of approximately 18.5%.

In addition to the correction of the apportionments of the tax burden for these districts between Kane County and DuPage County, and the credit for the overpayments by DuPage County residents for 2013, these reductions also reflect a shift in the tax burden from DuPage residents to Cook County residents.

Please be cautioned that tax rates for these districts will likely rise next year, as they will be adjusted back to the levels that they would have been without the correction for the overpayments.

The Clerk will release the final rates during the next two weeks.  When they are released, I will update this post and will provide tax estimates for property owners who contact my office.
