My staff and I completed the 2011 General Assessment on November 15, 2011.  For the second year, assessments were reduced across Wayne Township.

Assessment notices were mailed to all property owners and the assessments were published on November 30, 2011. The deadline to appeal a 2011 assessment was December 30, 2011.  Appeal hearings were held in late January and early February.  Decisions on these appeals will be mailed by the Board of Review in late March.

Even though assessments were reduced, local taxing bodies are still able to levy (at least) the same tax dollars each year plus an increase based on the Consumer Price Index.  When assessments are reduced, the tax rates are automatically raised to ensure that the requested tax dollars are collected by the taxing bodies. Therefore, most property owners will continue to pay similar or higher tax bills than in the previous year.

We are now working on the 2012 assessments, which we expect to complete in August or September of 2012.  Assessments will again be reduced for 2012.  Please visit our website for updates as the year progresses.
